- Black Currant (Ribes nigrum)
- Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis)
- Juniper (Juniperus communis)
Used in allergic pathologies, synergistic action on the liver, mucous membrane and immunity
Part of the allergy complex, : Phyto B.R.J. + Phyto E.E.C
The combination of Ribes, Rosemary, and juniper work to harmonize the biological basis of the atopic triad; Asthma, Eczema, and Allergies. The combination has a synergistic action on the liver, mucosal membranes, and general immunity.
More specifically, Phytotherapies work to control the stress response by modulating the corticosteroids and histamine responses in the body. The relationship between stress and histamine release was found in animal and clinical human studies. Stress results in mast cell degranulation and consequently elevated levels of histamines.
Black currant is used frequently with other phytembryotherapy because of its ability to complement and enhance the action of other combinations. Black Currant is considered a key remedy for adrenal exhaustion and treatment with corticosteroids.
On a mental-emotional level, it is believed to help defend against negative thoughts often seen in rumination, depression, and anxiety. A small study using healthy volunteers consuming Black Currant Juice had improvement in cognition and stress response.
Rosemary young shoots modulate the nervous system and have an antioxidant course of action. The body sequesters toxins in mucus, edema and fat. By enhancing the liver’s detoxification pathways, rosemary helps eliminate allergy promoting compounds from the body.
Furthermore, rosemary is a liver tonic. It increases the metabolism of fat, cholesterol, and steroid hormones; disarray in these processes can contribute to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). One animal study found that Rosmarinic acid (RA) and carnosic acid (CA) significantly reduced the contents of liver triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), free fatty acids (FFA), and improved cell hypertrophy, leading to improvements in NAFLD . NAFLD mice on a high-fat diet co-administered rosemary leaf extract had limited weight gain and reduced liver steatosis.
Traditionally Juniper has been used as a blood purifier to eliminate uric acid and excess sugar. An animal study found that juniper berries could significantly reduce blood glucose. This connection is notable considering histamine 1 & 2 receptors signaling may regulate glucose and lipid metabolism and influence the development of hyperlipidemia-induced nonalcoholic steatohepatitis.
